About Department

The Department of Humanities was founded in 1956. It is multi-disciplinary, and consists of three disciplines: Economics, English Literature and Linguistics, Psychology or organizational behavior.

The Department of Humanities plays a unique and distinctive role in an institute where the ethos of science and technology prevails. It is believed that engineering and science are, by their very nature, humanistic and socially derived enterprises. Hence a complete science and technology education must include liberal arts, economics, social and behavioral sciences where the students unites application of scientific principles along with human, moral and social understanding.

The undergraduate courses taught by the Department faculty aim at making the science and technology students aware of the various issues concerning man and society. They are meant to sensitize students to the broader social, cultural, economic, ethical and humane issues involved in social change.. The department has excellent opportunities and facilities for the pursuit of research and development. The Departmental faculty also guides B.Tech., and M.Tech projects offered by the Engineering Departments and Inter-Disciplinary Groups.

Apart from the central level facilities, the Department has its own Library. Other infrastructure facilities are also made available to the students. The Department possesses well-equipped Language Laboratory and a Psychology Laboratory (under maintenance). For the fulfillment of its teaching and research goals, the Department has competent faculty members with a high degree of excellence who keep pace with the current developments in their fields of specialization.

Unlike faculty in more conventional universities, the members of faculties have the distinction of operating within a premier technological institute and spending time with every student who comes to VSSUT. It is in this respect that the teachers feel particularly well-equipped to contribute to a science, arts and ethics dialogue across cultural boundaries.
